My 5 year old's handiwork

So the other day after dinner, I was in the kitchen, cleaning up.  I had to put leftovers away and needed a container that was in the room where the girls were playing.  I walked over to get the container and found both girls with scissors in their hands.  Then I gasped.  You can look at the first picture below and see what happened.

At first I thought she gave her self a trim, but soon realized it was her older sister.  She knew she was in big trouble, so she immediately started crying.  We still to this day don't really know what happened. The bigger munchkin still can't really explain why she did it.
As you can see from the pictures, little munchkin didn't mind so much.  I guess when you're three, you aren't as self conscious about your appearance.  Good thing, because it's going to take a while for those hairs to catch up with the rest.  They've been using scissors for more than a year now, and never done something like this, so I just figured they were good girls. Lesson learned: don't leave munchkins unsupervised with scissors.  They've lost their scissor privileges indefinitely.
The rest of the pictures don't really match with the story.  It was just a nice day with beautiful light so I snapped some pictures.

saturday morning fun

8AM: My bright and early risers

As soon as they woke up (7am), "Mommy, can we go outside and play?"  The luxury of time on Saturday mornings is priceless.  They played for an hour and then drank some hot chocolate.  When they came in, it was only 9.30am!  I wonder when it will be when they start sleeping in until 8am, 9am, 10am...

brrrrr...but they didn't seem to mind

They love walking through the snow pretending that they are ice skating.  I need to find tiny, waterproof gloves that are as easy to put on as mittens.

little milestones

She won an award so she got to wear this at school for a week.  She wasn't supposed to bring it home, but I'm glad she forgot to take it off so we could document this achievement.  It's nice to know she attends a school that keeps scripture close to their hearts, and that it is seen as an honor and privilege to wear around.

She loves creating designs with these blocks.

It's so much fun to see what comes out of her little drawings.  My dilema now is, how much do I keep, and what do I throw away?  I am trying to just take pictures of her creativity to remember, but it is really hard to throw some items away.   Seriously, what if she turns out to be famous?  These little pieces could be worth hundreds, thousands, or millions of dollars...A mother can dream, right?   All mothers think this way of their children, I suppose.

Her spelling is a bit off, but still creative.

late october/november 2012 gallery and miscellaneous

Halloween Oct 2012.  Sandy didn't keep them home.  Our neighborhood was one of a few that lost electricity for a brief period.  Fortunately we only lost it for a few hours, but I know many others that were without power for days, and weeks.

A super sweet friend invited her over for her little brother's 1 year old birthday celebration.
The birthday boy.  He is the sweetest!

Some artwork I was very impressed with (I know, it's my mommy-vision).

Check out that goofy smile.

cooking with grandma

In Korea, the tradition is to make dduk mandoo soup every new year's day.  So, the girls learned how to make homemade mandoo (dumplings).

I forgot to take pictures of the soup, but it was yummy!  I love having grandparents around.

59!

Longest post ever!

I got very behind in posting, so here's a recap of our last months of 2012!

Thanksgiving, 2012

The Saturday after my little brother got married, so I had to figure out what to do with munchkin's hair.  She described exactly what she wanted, and this is how it came out.

For them, the new white shoes were the best part of being flower girls (besides my brother getting married, of course).

The newlyweds!  Don't they look alike already? Makes me wonder if I look like my dh.

Our dear friends who flew in from California.
They did a great job walking together.  The only problem was that they ran out of petals by the time they came up the aisle :)

 My beautiful sister in law!

At the reception with ISO 12,800.  Pretty noisy. I think I might invest in an external flash this year.

December 2012

Little munchkin's preschool Christmas performance!  She was all smiles and sang very loudly.  She waved to me every five minutes :)

Playing @ school waiting for her sister's Christmas performance.  I love that little smile.

The Lower School performance.
She wanted a special fancy hairstyle, so we searched on the web and this is what she chose!  I should have taken a picture of her hair when we took it out.  Perfect ringlets.

The "Poppers" and "Snappers"
Her wonderfully creative and tech savvy teacher :)

A special surprise visitor.

Pre-Christmas dinner @ grandma's house with the whole family (including Ernie).

My parents served king crab legs and kalbi.  Not your typical Christmas dinner, but still good :)

The newlyweds, deciding where to sit, or maybe just looking at the food?

Opening a few presents from my brother and sister-in-law.

My sister-in-law captured this great shot!

Merry Christmas! Before...

and after :)

Her Santa Claus Portrait.  We're not sure why he has a top hat.

 Last meal at 1193.

Goodbye room.  We made a lot of memories in here.  Lots of sleepless nights, sleepless naps, singing, dancing, reading, playing...

 New Year's Day.
